Cathie Blanchfield has practised exclusively in family law and related areas since admission over 30 years ago. She worked with Stuart Fowler between 1996 and 2007, including as partner from 2000.
In 2007 Cathie established Blanchfield Nicholls Partners with Nigel Nicholls. She has been named as a leading family lawyer in the Doyles Guide consistently since 2016, including in High Value and Complex Property Matters.
Over the years Cathie’s work has focused primarily on financial and property matters for married, de-facto and same sex couples. She regularly advises in matters involving complex financial arrangements. She maintains a particular interest in financial agreements under the Family Law Act and regularly drafts and advises clients in those matters.
Cathie is widely recognised for a sensible and pragmatic approach in her family law matters, and wherever possible will encourage effective settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution procedures. She enjoys the challenges inherent in communicating sometimes difficult concepts in family law, and working to understand each client's particular needs and expectations while giving realistic advice.
