About the Webinar

Important tax reforms are coming with the Commercial and Industrial Property Tax Reform Bill. This pivotal legislation aims to eliminate land transfer duty and landholder duty from transactions involving commercial and industrial properties. Under this reform, these duties will be replaced by a new annual 'Commercial and Industrial Property Tax' (CIPT). It's crucial for property lawyers, accountants, and conveyancers navigating land transfers or commercial transactions involving property-owning entities in Victoria to understand the implications of these significant changes. This practical webinar is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge needed to navigate this new tax landscape effectively. Learn about the key reforms, understand the implementation timelines, and mitigate potential risks associated with these changes:

  • How is land brought into the tax reform scheme
  • When does land have a ‘qualifying use’?
  • What if the land is used for mixed purposes?
  • How is land entered into the tax reform scheme?
  • What is an entry transaction?
  • What is CPT taxable land?
  • Navigating the transition period
  • Who is liable for the CIPT?
  • Can the owner pass on CIPT to lessees or purchasers?
  • Practical worked examples
