About the Webinar

After unveiling its much-anticipated overhaul of Industrial Relations in Australia, the Federal Government was forced to strip back its reforms at the last moment in light of resistance in the Senate. The only changes that did survive were changes to casual employment arrangements. This session examines the practical impact of The Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia's Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill 2020 and how it sits alongside recent seminal cases dealing with casual employment. It covers:

  • Defining casual employment – navigating the new reforms
  • How do the changes sit alongside recent case law?
  • Navigating casual employee entitlements, including unfair dismissal
  • Casual conversion:
      • What is the ‘trigger’ point?
      • When can an employer refuse?
  • Key takeaways for employers for managing legal risks with casual employment
  • The withdrawn reforms and their role in the future of industrial relations
