With this comes an increase in disputes about the value of real property in the context of transfer duty, landholder duty and land tax. This session explores the various valuation issues that arise in duty and land tax from the perspective of a tax expert and includes a consideration of:

  • Commissioner of State Revenue v Placer Dome Inc [2018] HCA 59:

    • does Placer Dome change the way that valuers calculate land value for duty and land tax purposes?

    • what are the technical implications from Placer Dome for transfer and landholder duty?

  • Should a different value be placed on majority versus minority shareholders in a company?
